The challenge

SC Labs had outgrown its initial accounting system as the company scaled rapidly due to new regulations and market expansion. Managing multiple entities, complex revenue streams, and detailed financial reporting became increasingly difficult and time-consuming.

Heather Lee, SC Labs’ Corporate Controller spearheaded the effort to find a more sophisticated, scalable financial platform that could provide real-time visibility, support consolidated reporting, and accommodate the unique requirements of a regulated, high-growth industry.

The solution

BT Partners supported the implementation and ongoing optimization of a modern cloud financial management platform. They helped configure the system for multi-entity operations, complex revenue tracking, and streamlined workflows tailored to SC Labs’ testing business.

Key enhancements included improved consolidation capabilities, dimension-based reporting for deeper insights, automated processes for efficiency, and better visibility into financial performance. BT Partners continues to provide strategic consulting and support for new initiatives.

Results & business impact

SC Labs grew 130% from 2017 to 2019, and has an impressive projected future growth trajectory. Part of that growth involves adding new legal entities. “It’s so easy to add new entities in Sage Intacct,” says Lee. “Functionality to create and manage multiple entities is built into the software so well that it’s second nature. It can take hours to produce consolidated financial statements in other accounting packages, and it usually requires lots of spreadsheets. With Sage Intacct it’s nearly instant. When you can take data out of Excel and keep it in your accounting software there’s less room for error — along with a huge gain in efficiency.”

BT Partners helps SC Labs use the software to automate previously manual workflows, saving time and resources that can be used to support growth. One example is the introduction of electronic purchase requisitions. Automating the requisition processes saves personnel time and provides greater visibility and control into the company’s procurement process — precisely what it needs to efficiently scale its operations.

Leadership can now generate consolidated financials quickly, track trends, and make more informed strategic decisions. The solution has helped the company attract investors, manage cash flow effectively, and scale operations efficiently.
