Veterans day is the official holiday to honor and celebrate those who serve and those who have served in the United States Armed services. As a company that employees some veterans, we welcome the opportunity to give back to those who have selflessly defended our country. Here are a few ways to show your appreciation while celebrating Veterans Day.
Say Thank You
Whenever you see someone in uniform or veteran attire, extend a thank you. Simple expressions of gratitude to show what their service means to you can go a long way in making them feel appreciated.
Buy Them a Meal
If you have Veterans that work for your organization or some that you know personally, offer to host a lunch or treat them to a meal. A warm meal is always appreciated and a great way to celebrate a service member.
Ask Them Their Story
While some may not be eager to share some of their experiences in combat, others enjoy talking about what they’ve done for their country. Lending an ear to a veteran that is eager to share their experience can be valuable to both you and the service member. Remember to always be respectful and use discretion when discussing such a sensitive subject.
Recognize Their Service
If you employee veterans, you can recognize and highlight their service in a few different ways. You can host a small reception, send out a newsletter, or give them a small token of your appreciation. Another way to support service members all throughout the year is to start a R.E.D. Friday tradition in your workplace. R.E.D. stands for Remember Everyone Deployed. Everyone should wear red on Fridays to honor those who cannot be home.
However, you choose to celebrate Veterans Day this year, we hope you have a safe and happy day, and we thank those who have served and are still serving for your devotion.
